Why Do we Constantly Hear Talk About Cancer These Days?BY: Ritu Choudhary | Category: Breast Cancer | Submitted: 2010-08-16 18:34:24
60 years ago, the word diagnosis did not exist in the vocabulary. The deaths were from natural causes, aged, chronic illness or accidents. In this article, I concentrate myself entirely to a cancer that affects us, especially us women. You probably guess that it is breast cancer, because 1 in 9 women is suffering from cancer. I want to say that even if you are in the class of persons at risk, or you experience some symptoms of the disease, I ask you not to come to this conclusion quickly, but if you have any doubts or questions, I suggest you consult your physician or other healthcare professional. People at risk * 99% of breast cancers found in women * Higher risk for white women * Onset between 25 and 60 years * Higher risk after 60 years * 1 / 9 women may suffer from this cancer in her lifetime Risk Factors of Cancer * Sex and age. * History of breast cancer and another in the family or personally. * Hormonal (menstruation, menopause) * Physical inactivity * Use high-fat * Obesity in postmenopausal (after menopause) * Alcohol * Exposure to chemicals and nuclear (radiation) Symptoms of Breast Cancer This cancer is very insidious and it is only diagnosed by mammography. 90% of cases of breast cancer is found in the upper dial external breast (near the armpit). The mass (the bump) felt on the breast is hard, insensitive (no pain), fixed, with an irregular shape and poorly defined. You can also observe: * Nipple retraction * A folding or thickening of the skin like an orange peel. * Infiltration or hardening of the skin if the presence of large mass. * Clear or bloody nipple discharge, one breast or both. How can we Diagnostic Breast Cancer? * Self breast examination (palpation manual) * Analysis of breast tissue * Breast Ultrasound * Galactography (additional breast X-ray) * Mammography * Scintimammographie The Breast Cancer Treatments The treatment options depend on tumor size of breast, histological classification and the achievement or not lymph. Surgical Treatment: * Lumpectomy: surgical procedure of removing a tumor, whatever its nature, benign or cancerous. * Mastectomy: surgical removal, partial or total, of a breast or two, partial or segmented breast. * Full or modified mastectomy with or without reconstruction. Axillary dissection *: removal of axillary lymph Adjuvant Treatment: Depends on nodal status, menopausal status, age, type of cancer cell, the size and extent of cancer and the presence or absence of hormonal factors. * Radiation therapy: To reduce the tumor before surgery or use as a palliative treatment to reduce pain. * Chemotherapy Beneficial for pre-menopausal women, to reduce the size of the tumor, surgery less "mutilating" and slows the growth of the tumor. * Hormone Therapy: For hormone-dependent cancers and to treat recurrences or metastases. * Biological therapy: stimulating the body's natural defenses The causes of cancer: fashion and living environment supervision April 25, 2010 - The evidence that cancer has close links with our lifestyle and our living environment is second to none. Despite this evidence, the causes that are currently known are tiny compared to those, very many, for which we have little or no data, he adds. This category includes: nearly 10 000 pollutants that contaminate water and air leakage of toxic materials from landfills, pesticides, nanoparticles, breast implants, many consumer products, psychological stress, sleep, light pollution, etc.. and this list is only partial' says the researcher. Some factors are no longer in doubt. This is the case of smoking, the evidence is scientifically irrefutable. Alcohol, physical inactivity, obesity, history of female reproductive (lactation, number of children) and radon are also subject to strong scientific evidence. It was also recognized forty work-related toxic substances as carcinogens. The asbestos, chromium, vinyl chloride, silica, benzene, dioxin, formaldehyde and aromatic amines are included. Even if they are found primarily in particular workplaces; these substances are of concern to the entire population since they spread into the environment. Cancer drugs and treatments Similarly, a dozen microbial (HPV, HIV, HBV, H. pylori) and a score of medications, including some against cancer as well as hormonal treatments, are also recognized as carcinogenic. Even if, individually, it seems that these elements do not do much damage, together they still represent a good number of cases. It is also true for red meat, solar radiation, X-rays and radiation. Some environmental factors and lifestyle are now regarded as probably carcinogenic. This is where the smoke from car exhausts, inadequate intake of fruits and vegetables, smoke caused by burning wood or coal, the air pollution in cities and consumption of certain food components. If we want to act in terms of prevention, we must change our approach and lifestyle. Currently, only 1% of the total budget is allocated to cancer research goes to the causes. But many things need to be studied or confirmed. Article Source: http://www.cancer-surgery.com/ About Author / Additional Info: I am not a cancer doctor.
