Careful diet is considered as the best way to prevent cancer and these foods do exist. Some foods show anticancer properties, although nobody is able to confirm that a particular food can stop the cancer when it is developing. Still, experts suggest that a generally healthy diet rich in vegetables and fruits of all colors is the key toward off diabetes, heart disease and probably to prevent cancer as well. Foods such as garlic, broccoli and berries would be strongly linked to prevention of cancer. These foods are low in fat and calories. Moreover, they are rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals, which may reduce the risk of developing cancer. Antioxidants and Phytochemicals: You must be aware of antioxidants like vitamin C, beta-carotene and lycopene found in many vegetables and fruits. Research has confirmed the fact that people who consume meals rich in vegetables and fruits have reduce risk of developing cancer. Different type of chemical compounds from plants, namely phytochemicals, also appears to protect cells from dangerous compounds from food and environment, and prevent our cells from damage and mutations. Broccoli: Broccoli and other vegetables like cauliflower and cabbage are the rich source of phytochemicals called glucosinolates. They produce enzymes which are released when you eat the vegetables, thus destroying the cell walls. Body also generates these enzymes in the gut, and when the broccolis pass through this area, enzymes are activated. Broccoli is the best source of sulforaphane that could reduce cancer risk. The broccoli and its cousins are the foods most protective against cancers of the mouth, esophagus and stomach, Tomatoes: The red color of tomatoes has a potential to fight against cancer of the. Tomatoes come from a phytochemical called lycopene a powerful antioxidant. The latter is present in highest concentration in tomatoes. Many studies suggest that diets rich in lycopene may reduce the risk of prostate cancer. To make the most of the benefits of lycopene, eat cooked or processed tomatoes. The processing of tomatoes makes the cancer-fighting compounds in your body longer because the heat breaks the cell walls of plants Strawberry: The berries also play a role in cancer prevention. In a recent study, the berry extracts slowed the growth of cancer cells. The extracts of strawberries and black raspberries had the greatest impact on colon cancer cells. Strawberries are rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C and ellagic acid. Ellagic acid appears to have anti-cancer by stimulating enzymes that destroy cancer-causing substances, and slow the growth of tumors. Strawberries are good for preventing cancer because they also contain flavonoids. They suppress an enzyme that damages DNA and is linked to lung cancer. Carrots: Carrots contain beta-carotene, an antioxidant that protects cell membranes from damage caused by toxins and slow the growth of cancer cells. In addition, carrots contain falcarinol, a natural pesticide. British scientists have found that rats which they gave the falcarinol had a lower risk of developing cancerous tumors. Cooked carrots provide more antioxidants than raw carrots. Spinach: Spinach is rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, carotenoids which remove free radicals from your body before it's damaging. These carotenoids are found in spinach and other leafy vegetables, dark green, and studies show they may protect cancer of the mouth, esophagus and stomach. Whole grain: Whole grains provide great fiber, but that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer, scientists are not sure yet how food components such as fiber and certain types of materials fat affect the risk of colorectal cancer. Whole grains contain other substances that may fight cancer such as lignans, which act as antioxidants and saponins, which may prevent cancer cells from multiplying.
