Prostate cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in many western countries after lung cancer. Yet there is a way to prevent this cancer by the administration of food supplements. Most cases are diagnosed in men 65 years or more. The type of treatment you receive for prostate cancer will often depend on how far your cancer has progressed. The progression of prostate cancer is known as the staging of prostate cancer and the steps are:

Staging of prostate: Stage T1
At this stage, the progression of prostate cancer is minimal and is unlikely symptoms. There is a small tumor of the prostate gland which is not apparent during a rectal examination, but may be captured by a biopsy. This step is known as localized cancer of the prostate.

Staging of prostate:
Stage T2: This step is also known as localized prostate cancer. Although the progression of prostate cancer is more advanced, the cancer is still situated in the prostate gland. At this stage, the tumor is detected during a rectal examination or ultrasound.

T3 and T4: At this stage, the progression of prostate cancer increases significantly, and the cancer spreads to tissues surrounding the prostate. This stage is considered as the locally advancement of the prostate cancer.

Stage N1: At this stage of the progression of prostate cancer, it is unlikely to be completely healed, although the spread of cancer can be slowed with treatment. At this stage N1, the cancer spreads to lymph nodes, glands located throughout the body. This stage is known as metastatic prostate cancer.

Stage M1a M1b: In M1a stage, the cancer spreads to lymph nodes in the body parts and not near the prostate. At this stage the progression of prostate cancer becomes very serious and cancer reaches to the bone.

It is strongly recommended to men at 50 ages to have regular medical examination including a rectal examination to determine if a problem is likely to develop prostate cancer and to detect cancer of the prostate an early stage, before it causes any symptoms. For men who have been cases of prostate cancer in their family, it is recommended to start screening at age 45. For good prevention, it is to ensure your diet by reducing consumption of meat and fat with emphasis on fruit and vegetables.

There is also a good way to prevent, hinder or delay the progression of the disease by taking food supplements containing fair doses of soy and vitamin E combined with selenium. Studies have shown has equal incidence rate, 1.8 Chinese die of prostate cancer as against 50 European and 90 African Americans. The study of Asian eating habits has proved that these foods- tomato and soybean, in particular isoflavones can slow the progression of the illness.

A placebo-controlled study on 29,133 male smokers was conducted in 1998 to observe the effect of vitamin E. It was surprising that the incidence of prostate cancer decreased by 32% in the group that received vitamin E for 5-8 years compared to the placebo group. In addition, mortality from prostate cancer was reduced by 41% in group taking vitamin E.
In one study, 974 men took either selenium or placebo. The group taking selenium presented an incidence of prostate cancer by 63% lower than in the placebo group. The prevention of prostate cancer by taking supplements is highly recommended from the age of 40 years. Food supplements of prostate cancer are available in pharmacies. As a guide, the dose is usually given 2 tablets per day, but, anyway, your doctor is your best advisor. We recommend you to consult first.
