Liver is one of the most vital organs of human body. The location of liver in the body is perfect for the proper functioning of the organ. It is situated below the diaphragm. Hepatic artery supplies blood to liver and portal veins carries bloods rich in nutrients away form the intestine. The main function of liver is to secrete bile into intestines which in turn absorbs nutrients form foods etc. Liver also plays a very important role in excreting toxic wastes form the body. Any problem in liver directly affects the process of digestion. Liver cancer is very common in Africa and Asia. In America and Europe liver cancer is less common. Records also show that liver cancer is more common in males than females.

The reason for liver cancer being such a dangerous disease for humans is culminating form a fact that it is very difficult to detect the disease early. While the symptoms become evident and patient begins to feels the pinch it has already become too late. Pain in abdomen region, weight loss, abdominal fullness, appetite loss and finally intestinal bleeding and blood clotting problems are the common symptoms of liver cancer.

Liver cancer mainly develops in the liver tissue and this cancer is called as carcinoma. Cancer may also be spread in liver form other neighboring organs. Carcinoma initiates in the cells and tissues of liver. Liver cancer can be both benign and malignant. Cancer in liver spreads very rapidly. If the cancer is benign its ok but malignant cancer spreading all across body is disastrous. Thy liver cancer spreads through blood vessels or in lymph nodes. Liver cancer develops a lump formed form accumulation of undesired tissues or cells. These lumps are commonly called as tumors which can be harmful or benign.

Unlike other cancers like leukemia or colon cancer, liver cancer is very much treatable. Liver transplant surgery is most common among today's medical fraternity. Liver cancer can also be treated by radiation therapy. Radiation is used to destroy the tumor formed in the body. In case the tumor is malignant, local radiation therapy has proved extremely useful for majority of patients. Of course there are so severe side effects of radiations, but when compared with saving human life, the compromise is not very costly. Radiation destroys the tumor and more often than not prevents it from reappearing. But Liver cancer prognosis shows that even after radiation therapy, within 10/15 years the tumor may appear again in the body.

Another effective form of cancer therapy is localized chemical treatment of tumor called chemotherapy. Chemotherapy works on the principal of localized treatment and dissolving of tumor by means of chemical dissolution. Gradual dose of chemical is injected in the patients artery, the blood acts as a carrier and transports the chemical to the tumor affected area. As soon as the chemical comes in contact with the tumor it starts to destroy the lump. Chemicals not only destroy the lump but it also sanitizes the region and tries to eliminate the possibility of recurrence.

The treatment of liver cancer is decided by observing the size and number of tumors formed in the liver. If the tumor is seen to have spread beyond liver them chemotherapy will be preferred because liver transplant will possible not help to get hundred percent recovery. In general liver cancer is treatable and lot of people has got benefits form treatments like liver transplant, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. But all this is possible only if the cancer is detected in an early stage. If the tumor spreads in the body the recovery becomes more and more difficult.
