Prostate cancer is different from all other forms of cancer because it takes several years to get completely developed. Thus, in many cases, it never gets developed to the advanced stage till the death of the affected person. In fact, even if the prostate cancer gets detected in its initial stage, it is never treated because there is no need to treat it as it is not harmful. As far as the treatment of the prostate cancer is concerned, there are 3 kinds of radiotherapies that are used to treat this form of cancer. These radiotherapies include the usual electron beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and the new 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) and intensity modulated radiation (IMRT). The electron gleam radiation therapy uses photons these three types of treatments. The photons are the elements that have no significant mass or charge and hence they are similar to the power that is utilized in x-rays.

The 3-Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy is the technique that introduces the utilization of body control device. It has been found that the ultimate position of the patients is important for the oncologist; this technique makes it easier to capture the stationary target area than target area of patient that may change based on the changing activities of his body. There is computer software that is utilized in this technique that enables the experts the CT examination which takes complete cross-sectional picture of the internal anatomy of patient. This helps the experts to identify the size of the amalgamated cells that has caused prostate cancer and according the degree of dosage of radiation is decided that may be stronger than the organs in the surroundings.

The next technique includes the Intensity Modulated Radiation Beam Therapy that takes 3D-CRT. In this technique, the patient receives additional beams of radiation. The best part in this case is that as the radiation dosage is slimmer, it hits or strikes the target without affecting any good tissues. However, this technique has not yet got the higher degree of popularity, but it is gradually experiencing appreciation being successful in eradicating the overall danger caused by the prostate cancer. The next technique that can also be included as the common mode of treatment for prostate cancer is the Proton Beam Radiation Therapy. This is the technique of conformal proton beam radiation therapy and is similar to the 3D-CRT. In this case, the proton deposits their energy into the tissue only as it begins to slow down after being treated by linear accelerator. The protons are the subatomic elements and are not waves such as photon used in case of the electronic beam radiation therapy.

In fact, the patients who choose to be treated through the radiotherapy need to undergo radiation 5 times per week within 5 to 9 weeks. This range of time and the dosage is completely based on the pre script ions of the doctor whom you consult. He gives the ranges based on your overall condition. However, radiation treatment has also some side effects to the patient. It may make the patients feel tired and hence resting is necessary during radiation dosage. Patients may suffer diarrhea and/or uncomfortable and frequent urination. It can also cause loss of hair in the pelvic region that may either be temporary or permanent, depending in the quantity of radiation used. The cases of prostate cancer may vary from patient to patient. Based on the overall condition of the patients, the doctors suggest the mode of treatments that may be among these radio therapy treatments. You must try to acquire the best possible knowledge about this form of disease and be prevented from it by adopting proper and healthy lifestyle.
