Cancer Prevention Survey has been done recently in Europe to get more insight on the process of cancer prevention and its importance as compared to cancer cure. The survey was done between September 1 and December 31, 2008, and the results were emphatic and very motivating. Multiple choice questions were prepared for the participants of this survey. The survey was attended by huge number of participants making the result of survey closer to reality. Participants were also asked to make more elaborate answers than asked in the multiple choice questions. Importance was given on the tips provided by the participants (preferably people either suffering form cancer or their family members) for avoiding cancer. The majority of participants were well aware of the considerable dangers of smoking, immoderate consumption of alcohol, unprotected sex or carcinogenic substances like asbestos. There is also no surprise when we say a massive response for the interest shown by masses for prevention of mainly breast cancer and colon cancer. It was very reassuring to see that the message is widely received. Obviously the precautions that were discussed are a minimum requirement for any lifestyle focusing on anti-cancer. The questions were not specifically about cancer prevention but rather on more general topic of precautions that can be taken well in advance to minimize the risk of cancer. Commonly discussed precautions were avoiding stress and having a balanced diet. It was surprising to observe the depth of know-how that general public maintains on cancer. The trend is very encouraging and will certainly help out fight against cancer. Among the various advice offered and evaluated in the survey here we will list down few for the readers of this article. The objective of the survey was on developing a lifestyle which automatically is anti-cancer focused. Almost 80% of people first preference was maintaining a organic daily eating regime. Almost 65% of people preferred living in the countryside away form pollution. Nearly 60% recommend avoiding direct exposure to the scorching sun rays and avoiding stress at work and use of daily exercise to keep up physical and mental health. Majority of people (55%) recommend avoiding continuous exposure to Wi-Fi based mobile phones laptops etc. Use of herbal tea was also recommended by almost 50% of participants. Quality sleep was accepted by 50% of all participants. Though majority did not approve of ban on use of drinking alcohol and consumption of tobacco, but still 45% agreed to this solution of cancer prevention. Practicing yoga was also recommended by as high as 40% of the participants. Surprisingly almost 40% agreed that if people eating slowly, chewing well then a lot can be done towards the goal of anti-cancer. Here is the list of foods which exhibit anti-cancer. A cancer patient must follow a diet rich in the following foods but it must be noted that these food complements, but not replace, the conventional therapies of cancer (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery). Consumption of these anti-cancer based foods is best if consumed in small quantities each day rather than consuming large quantities once a week. Planning for recipes where the integration of these foods is such a way that the patient need not compromise a lot on the taste. Objective is to have a healthy diet for a prolonged period of time. Food like Broccoli soup with onions, turmeric and black pepper are perfect examples. Drawing inspiration from the cuisines of the world like Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and including these foods in the recipe is also recommended. Foods like Garlic, cloves, Re-hydrated seaweed, Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, turnips, Mushrooms, dark chocolate 70%, Brussels sprouts, Turmeric, Spinach, watercress, Ginger, Citrus juice, Onions, shallots, leeks, tomato paste , Black pepper, grapes, Green Tea and Red wine.
