Cervical cancer, also called cervical cancer, is a malignant disease that originates in the lining of the cervix / neck (cervical). The cervix is the lower portion of the uterus that protrudes into the vagina (vagina) and about 2 inches long. The genesis of cervical cancer is very slow. From the first change in the lining of the cervix to the diagnosis of cancer can be 10 to 15 years. Cervical cancer can occur at any age but is most common in women between the 30th and 45th years, and later between the 65th and 85th years.

This cancer is caused by an infection with a general and common virus: the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). These viruses are transmitted through "skin to skin" contact and the cervix is mainly through sexual intercourse.

There are many types of HPV, and to distinguish them from each other, they got a song. Most are completely harmless, but some can cause cervical cancer (No. 16, 18, 30 and 31). Which are oncogenic (cancer-causing) viruses called an infection but it does not mean that cervical cancer occurs. Approximately 80% of all women who are sexually active, get an HPV infection and about 70% of this group becoming infected with an oncogenic type. In most infections (oncogenic and non-oncogenic) virus disappears again, but a small number of women continues to exist and oncogenic infection can cause changes in the cervical mucus that can lead to cervical cancer.

Because of a skin infection, women who do not have sexual contact may be infected. Obviously an HPV infection is more common in women with varying sex partners. Condom use reduces that risk, but does not give full protection. Research also shows that many women who smoke have an increased risk, probably because they are less susceptible that oncogenic virus will disappear.

Symptoms and complaints
When there is cervical cancer the complaints and symptoms are common. One of the first symptom is abnormal vaginal bleeding and a watery discharge some unsavory. The abnormal bleeding occurs outside the menstrual period in young women after the menopause without any reason. There may also have contact bleeding, bleeding caused by sexual contact or sometimes a relief after all. Although abnormal bleeding is nothing to do with cancer, it is still advisable for all women to come to contact with her doctor.

Early detection
Cervical cancer is caused by an HPV infection and it is possible to prevent an infection when a vaccine exists. Scientists recently succeeded in discovering such a vaccine that allows young women to be protected form cervical cancer. With the Ministry of Health already talking to all young women across the world, prevention with the anti-HPV vaccine is the best preventive measure.

The disease course
Is there one case of cervical cancer, then that process will continue to expand. This growth will continue well into the area where the cervix is in, so the vagina and the supporting tissues around the cervix, as by means of the lymph nodes by metastases in the abdomen.

Surgery for Cervical Cancer
When the cancer process barely exists, it is still possible to treat cancer with only the removal of the cervix. The uterus is then retained and for young women who want it, it is still possible to get pregnant. In a comparatively advanced stage of cervical cancer, in young women a possible for the entire cervix removal with other glands and the connective tissue alongside the cervix called as radical operation is important. A radical surgery is usually performed in advanced stage. It is an abdominal surgery where the lymph nodes left and right along the blood vessels in the pelvis are removed.
