Importance of Hospice Care For Mesothelioma Cancer PatientsBY: Ritu Choudhary | Category: Mesothelioma Cancer | Submitted: 2010-06-13 10:41:58
Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is very rarely found among the people. In case of this cancer, the hospice care is preferred. This is because a time comes when the family members are not in a proper position to fulfill all the needs of the patients suffering from this deadly disease. Thus, they possess a need for a proper set up where the sufferer could relax and feel comfortable even in such a fatal condition. The hospice care can be given to the patient through the center that specializes in such activities. They offer perfect nursing facilities along with well trained staffs who could take better care of the patient during his lethal situation. They attend them so carefully that even the patients feel at ease as they do within their homes. Most of the patients demand to stay at their home during their last few days. Thus, the hospice care is also offered to them at their homes with all the relevant facilities and services that are essential for the sufferers. The care and attention that a patient receives through the hospice is palliative in nature. This means that the patients are helped in all the possible ways to get rid of their pains and other symptoms if they feel to be appearing as a result of such disease. This care is not concerned with treating this disease as it is undertaken during the last and the advanced stage where curing it is almost impossible. But at least it tries to provide a bit relief and help the patients to relax and feel comfortable during their last days. In fact, the proper care that is offered over here may in some cases also extend one's life span. However, the main objective of the hospice care is not to delay the death of the patient but to make their life as easy as possible during their last lively days. There is a specific team that is assigned the task to take care of the patients as well as the family members. This team is comprised of the doctors, nurses, nurse's aides, social workers so that they can help in planning related to inter-agency, counselors to support the patients and the family emotionally as well as providing proper dietary advices, clergy for spiritual guidance and volunteers. The counselors are also concerned with enhancing the will power of the patients that can ultimately make him more desirable towards living longer life thereby increasing his life span according to his wishes. The time is not an important factor over here. The hospice care to the patients suffering from mesothelioma cancer is available 24 hours a day and as desired by the family members. The center of hospice care prepares a proper plan based on the pre requisites of the patients as well as their families. The entire plan covers the condition in which the patient is so that his improvement and comfort could be taken into account in a proper way. The circumstances and condition of the family members as well as the patients are unique in themselves and hence different plans are needed to be created for different cases. For the Mesothelioma cancer patients, the federal health insurance program is offered that covers the hospice care along with the team members assigned the respective tasks including the medical supplies, counseling services, and other facilities. However, it has been found that most of the hospice care programs stay in contact with the patient's family even after the patient's death to offer them grief therapy and condolence for month to make them able to become normal as earlier.
