The liver cancer is a type of disease that can occur in two states that is primary and secondary liver cancer. With the increasing advanced techniques of screening and diagnosis, it has been observed that the cancer survival rates in this respect have been experiencing an enhancement. These survival rates are the factors that specify that how long a patient will survive after his treatments. The primary kind of liver cancer originates in the particular area and gets metastasized and spreads throughout the other body parts thereby transforming into secondary one. The transfer of the cancer cells into the liver is the easiest process as it functions in the filtration of the blood. This cancer gets spread through the cancer cells that accumulate in the colon, pancreas, stomach or lungs. There are certain risk factors that have been specified as the most common causes for liver cancer.

However, the exact ones have not yet been discovered. Some of these factors that pose threat of an individual for developing liver cancer includes one's age, gender, presence of carcinogens in the surrounding environment, exposure to hepatitis viruses, genetics, alcohol, use of contraceptives, cirrhosis, etc. Thus, a patient is always advised to be free from any such kind of surrounding that can push him towards the development of certain cancer. In fact, there are some of the preventive measures that you can consider for fighting against such environment. As far as a person's age is concerned, most of the people with this form of cancer belong to the age group of 65 to 74. Gender and race also constitutes one of the factors. According to the report, if the average of the cases is taken into account, it has been found that this form of cancer is common among white men and women than in black ones.

The liver cancer occurs in different stages in case of different people. The phases of this form of cancer include the first one that is referred as the localized stage. This is the initial stage of liver cancer. However, if a patient detects the presence of this disease during this phase his chance of survival through successful treatment increases. But, it has been seen that only 30 % cases are there where this disease gets detected at initial stage. Generally, it is really difficult to notice the signs and symptoms of this form of cancer as they are not so specific in nature.

The next phase in which liver cancer can be detected is beyond primary site. The survival rates of the patients if it gets detected during this stage are approximately about 6.5 %. This is, however, the phase during which the cancer spreads beyond its original site or place to the lymph nodes located regionally. About 25 % of the patients survive if the disease gets detected in this second stage. The third stage of the cancer is the metastasized state. This is the advanced stage of liver cancer and in most of the cases; the patients realize its presence during this phase where the complete treatment is not possible. Very few survivals are found in this case of the disease.

When the liver gets damages totally, there is an option of liver transplantation for the patients. But even after this surgery, the patients are not assured of remaining free from it as the chances of transfer of the cancer to the new liver remains high. In addition to this, it can also be added that the cancer in the new liver also needs to be detected in initial stage for making the survival of the patients longer. Thus, the patients must remain careful in noticing the signs to detect its presence and preferring regular check up to ensure a healthy living.
