Beyond the age of 1 year, the second leading cause of death after accidents is cancer among children. Around 2000 new cases of cancer in children and adolescents (before age 18) and are counted Europe each year at an annual risk of occurrence of approximately 1 / 500 to 600 children between 0 and 18. Acute leukemia and cancers of the lymphatic organs account for 40% of these malignant diseases of childhood. While 60% are represented by various kinds of solid tumors, which are very different from adult cancers. The 2 / 3 of these tumors are solid tumors, "embryonic" (or blastoma). They are found almost exclusively in young children before age 5. The cells that are reminiscent of those found in the bodies being formed during embryonic life. They are chiefly in the kidney and nervous system, but also in the muscles and supporting tissues like of eyes, genitals, liver and another class of solid tumors represented at all ages in the child. Brain tumor in children are caused like most of which are not located in the lobes of the brain itself. If we exclude leukemia, demonstrations of various kinds of childhood cancers are different from those of cancers of adults. To consider how their treatment is not the same, the possibility of healing is in many cases among children is much greater than adults. In 2003 70-80% of children and adolescents with cancer has healed. How to detect a childhood cancer? As adults, there are often no clear indications of the presence of cancer before the tumor reaches a certain stage. It draws attention sooner if it develops a short distance from the surface of the body-hence the outcrop is located. Two features are common and confusing for children who have cancer with solid tumors: (1) Often extreme rapidity of their growth in a few weeks, sometimes within days, is not proportional to their severity and can leave, however, predict a high sensitivity to chemotherapy (2) The apparent good health of the child in whom they occur is usual. Apart from cases of acute leukemia and certain cancers that reach bone marrow, the child usually do not suffer a lot and retains color, appetite and activity. The doctor, often guided by caring parents, is led to the diagnosis of two complementary ways: the discovery of a lump, visible or palpable symptoms and indirect evidence of its presence in the neighboring tissues. These symptoms most often look trivial, are highly variable depending on the location of the cancer, but their persistence without explanation beyond 15 days must call for further investigations. Detectable tumor In the stomach, kidney or its immediate vicinity can give rise to a tumor. The latter, due to the space constraint and restriction to tumor to grow forward, can take a certain size before attracting attention. Sometimes it's the toilet or during dressing that parents or the child himself noticed the big belly or a lump hard. Sometimes it is during one of the several clinical investigations that the doctors may discover an early tumor. By carefully palpating the abdomen of the child and asking the child that if there is a problem or not. Anyway, the echocardiographic study of the abdomen or ultrasound is will often be required to reach a conclusion. Under the skin, if there is a bulge like projection or like a ball moving, regular or otherwise shall be noticed. Self examination by patient confirming any hard consistency, firm or softer that has remain seated in the body for long. These symptoms must be immediately discussed with the doctor and should not be ignored for long time.
